When do you plant tulip bulbs?
It is best to plant tulip bulbs between September and December, as long as the ground is not yet frozen. This ensures that the bulb gets enough winter cold. A tulip needs that cold period to sprout beautifully in the spring. Then plant the bulbs about 10 to 15 centimeters deep, with the point facing up, in a sunny spot in well-draining soil. When do tulips bloom?
Once planted, you naturally want to know exactly when the color will enter your garden! Tulips bloom from March through May, depending on the variety. Early tulips, such as the single and double early varieties, poke their heads above the ground in March. Then the Triumph tulips follow in April, and the late varieties such as the double late and parrot tulips finish the season in May.
Can you combine tulips in the garden?
Multiple colors of tulips or even different types of flowers can create a playful effect. Tulips can therefore be perfectly combined with other types of flowers. Think, for example, of daffodils and hyacinths, which bloom in the same period and together provide a true spring image. Or combine early and late tulip varieties with each other, and you will enjoy blooming from March until May. Much is possible, and that is exactly what makes the tulip so much fun!
Tip from Brenda: Do not plant your tulip bulbs one by one spread throughout the border, but in groups of at least ten bulbs together. This way, you create a beautiful unity in your colorful garden!

Frequently asked questions about our tulip bulbs
How deep should I plant tulip bulbs?
Plant tulip bulbs about three times as deep as the bulb itself is high, usually about 10 to 15 centimeters. Always with the point facing up, and in well-draining soil, so that the bulb does not sit in water.
What do I do with tulips after blooming?
Cut off the faded flower so that the plant does not put energy into seed formation, but leave the foliage until it turns yellow on its own. The bulb stores nutrients in that foliage for next year's bloom.
Do tulips come back every year or do I have to buy new bulbs?
Tulips are officially perennial bulbs, but in practice, many cultivated varieties bloom less profusely the second year or do not come up at all. For the best result, plant them annually.
Can you plant tulips in a pot?
Tulips do perfectly fine in a pot, wonderful for your balcony or terrace. Do use a pot about 25 centimeters deep with holes in the bottom, because tulips do not like "wet feet." Feel free to place the bulbs closer together than in the garden, and you will soon have one cheerful bunch of color.
When can you buy tulip bulbs?
When tulips are for sale depends mainly on where you buy them. But you can usually order tulip bulbs starting in the summer for the new planting season. With us, you can usually buy them as a pre-order!
When do you dig up tulip bulbs?
You dig up tulip bulbs as soon as the foliage has completely yellowed, usually in June. You do this by carefully digging next to the bulb with a small spade and gently popping it out. Tip: do not pull on the foliage, as you will damage the bulb. Knock off the soil, let the bulbs dry for a few days, and then store them in a dry, dark, and cool place.
